Driver Killed When Car Goes Down Hill, Into Creek in Swisshelm Park Neighborhood

PITTSBURGH, PA – A driver was killed when his car crashed in the Swisshelm Park neighborhood of Pittsburgh on Friday morning, authorities said.

According to TribLIVE, the accident occurred at about 8:30 a.m. in the area of the Parkway East and the 1200 block of Commercial Street near the Squirrel Hill Tunnel.

Investigators determined that the driver of a 2024 Mazda 3 was driving outbound on the Parkway East and had exited the Squirrel Hill Tunnel when the car went over the guardrail near mile marker 76.  The Mazda rolled down a hillside and landed in the Nine Mile Run stream.

The victim, a 49-year-old man, died at the scene.  He was reported to be a teacher in the Penn Hills School District.

Pennsylvania State Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
