Passenger Dies After Car Hits Barrier on Parkway East in Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH, PA – A 20-year-old Pitcairn woman lost her life early Saturday, September 21, as a result of a single-vehicle wreck on the Parkway East in Pittsburgh, reports Patch.

The fatal accident happened in the westbound lanes of the parkway near the city’s Oakland neighborhood.

Pennsylvania State Police said the young woman was the front seat passenger of a sedan that lost control while traveling at a high rate of speed. At one point, the vehicle lost control and struck a barrier.

First responders pronounced the Pitcairn woman deceased at the scene. Another passenger who was in the rear seat suffered major injuries, while the driver sustained minor injuries.

An investigation remains open and ongoing, but officials have determined that the driver was impaired at the time of the wreck.
