CUMBERLAND COUNTY, PA – A 20-year-old woman who was 17 weeks pregnant lost her life Sunday afternoon due to a single-vehicle crash in Cumberland County, reports CBS News Pittsburgh.
The fatal accident occurred on a stretch of Newville Road on September 8, at about 12:30 p.m.
According to preliminary details, the victim was a passenger in a vehicle being driven by a 19-year-old. At one point, the driver fell asleep behind the wheel, causing the vehicle to roll off the roadway and lose control before striking a utility pole.
Officials said the impact caused the car to rotate and eject the 20-year-old woman out a side window and onto the roadway. She was pronounced deceased at the scene.
First responders rushed the driver to an area hospital. No information regarding the patient’s condition has been made available.
As of Tuesday, no charges have been reported. An investigation remains in progress.
