UNITY TOWNSHIP, PA – A rollover crash in Unity Township on Thursday morning left one person dead and another hospitalized, the Latrobe Bulletin reports.
The incident, reported at 10 a.m., occurred in the vicinity of 3348 U.S. Route 30 eastbound along Loyalhanna Creek east of the state Route 217 bridge and Kingston Dam.
An investigation by Pennsylvania State Police found that the driver of a 2015 Mercedes-Benz SUV went off the roadway and crashed into a tree before the vehicle then rolled over into a driveway. A woman who was a passenger died after being taken to an area medical facility. The driver, a man, was transported to the hospital with undisclosed injuries. Both were Cook Township residents.
State Police said preliminary information indicates the driver may have had a medical emergency that caused the accident.
The roadway was shut down for about five hours while police and emergency responders worked at the scene.
