Vehicle Vs Pedestrian Collision In Oakland Leaves Woman Critically Injured

PITTSBURGH, PA – Pittsburgh Public Safety said a woman was critically injured in a vehicle versus pedestrian collision on Friday night.

A news release stated that Pittsburgh Police, Fire, and EMS were dispatched to the intersection of Fifth Avenue and Neville Street in the Oakland neighborhood at about 7:20 p.m.

Investigators determined that a driver was heading outbound on Fifth Avenue when the driver of an oncoming vehicle traveling inbound tried to make a left turn onto Neville Street.  The driver of the outbound vehicle swerved to avoid a collision and struck an adult female pedestrian.

She was found unconscious by first responders, who rushed her to an area hospital.  The woman was listed in critical condition.  The driver of the vehicle that hit her, a man, remained at the scene and cooperated with police officers.

Detectives with the Collision Investigation Unit are looking into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
