ALLEGHENY COUNTY, PA – A 69-year-old woman lost her life Friday morning due to a multi-vehicle wreck in southeast Monroeville that left three other people injured, according to WTAE.
The accident happened in the 2100 block of Mosside Boulevard, while the woman, of Trafford borough, was dropping her adult son off at work.
According to Allegheny County officials, the victim was driving a Hyundai Elantra northbound when she slowed down in preparation of a left turn into the parking lot for Caliente Pizza. Moments later, the Elantra was struck by a northbound tractor-trailer, which was bearing signage indicating an oversized load.
Moments after the initial crash, the Elantra collided with a southbound Dodge Caravan associated with Eastern Area Prehospital Services.
Emergency responders worked for about 15 minutes to extricate the Trafford woman, who was left trapped in the wreckage of the Elantra. She was rushed to an area hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.
Her son, who was a passenger in the Elantra, was also transported to a local hospital where he was listed in stable condition.
The driver of the Dodge Caravan was transported to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in stable condition. Their passenger declined transport, suggesting relatively moderate injuries.
No injuries to the truck driver or anyone else were reported.
Officials did not immediately report any pending charges, but an investigation was in progress.
