Woman dies following multi-car wreck on PA 28 in East Deer Township

ALLEGHENY COUNTY, PA – A 36-year-old woman died Tuesday morning after a four-vehicle collision on Route 28 in East Deer Township, reports WTAE.

The accident happened on the southbound lanes between Exit 14 to Tarentum and Exit 12 to Pittsburgh Mills.

An investigation by Pennsylvania State Police shows the victim was driving a purple car southbound when she tried to pass a pickup truck traveling in the left lane. During the attempted pass, the purple car hit the front-right bumper of the pickup, and the impact caused the car to lose control as it proceeded to run off the left side of the highway and over the median. The car went airborne after striking a guardrail on the northbound side, striking a white car’s hood and windshield in the process. The purple car then rotated 180 degrees and entered the right lane before colliding with a black car, which was heading northbound.

First responders pronounced the driver of the purple car deceased at the scene.

The driver of the black car suffered serious injuries and had to be taken to a local hospital.

Neither of the two other drivers was reported hurt.

An investigation remains underway.
